US AIRWAYS FLIGHT ATTENDANT LABOR ALLIANCE FORMED TO SECURE FAIR AND EQUITABLE CONTRACTS
At this week’s AFA-CWA Executive Board meeting in Washington D.C. the board (comprised of the MEC Presidents from each AFA-CWA carrier) approved a resolution that creates an important labor alliance for our union and our members. The US Airways Flight Attendant Labor Alliance joins together the flight attendants at US Airways mainline, the two wholly owned subsidiaries, Piedmont Airlines and PSA Airlines and US Airways Express partners Mesa Airlines, Mesaba Airlines and Air Wisconsin with one clear message to management.
That message is management must be prepared to settle contract negotiations in a manner that recognizes the importance of the flight attendance who work every flight that carries the US Airways brand name. Management has a choice to make – either come to the bargaining table prepared to reach a deal that fairly compensates flight attendants or be prepared for a long and messy fight. The fight has already begun with flight attendants at PSA airlines taking a strike vote that demonstrated a near 100 percent member willingness to strike in order to reach a fair contract. US Airways mainline flight attendants will take a strike vote in the near future.
Labor disharmony is not the goal of the union but flight attendants are prepared to take whatever legal remedies are available to secure contracts that provide job security, maintain or enhance benefits and fair compensation.
The Alliance will conduct numerous high visibility events throughout the US Airways system in order to educate our customers about management’s desire to maintain bankruptcy driven contracts long after the airline returned to profitability.
More information on those events will follow.
